Spirit Rock retreat- Losing Fear of Formations

In these times, we can get caught in positions of fear and hopelessness as we watch the world we once knew changing before our eyes. A radical turn towards the truth of impermanence can open us to an inner strength that is rooted in Dhamma.

Implementing the Five Indriya (faculties) of Faith, Energy, Mindfulness, Composure, and Wisdom equips us to meet these challenges, while furthering our capacity to use all experiences for awakening. Join this daylong, co-taught by Ven. Dhammadipa and Ayya Anandabodhi at Spirit Rock Meditation Center.

Qigong will be offered after the lunch break. The day will be held in Noble Silence with Dhamma talks and opportunity for Q&A.

To learn more and to register for this event, visit the Spirit Rock website here.

Awakening to the Zen of This Very Life: a Workshop

One of the fundamental teachings of Zen is that awakening can only be found right in the midst of one's everyday life. Yet one might wonder whether that teaching is still true in the midst of a modern life that seems pushed and pulled by so many pressures, so many activites. This workshop will explore the Zen teachings on how to discover that the absolute and the relative co-exist peacefully right here, in this body and mind. The key is inquiry, which we will begin during our time together. The day will include a discussion of excerpts from Eihei Dogen Zenji's "Instructions to the Head Cook" and a koan from Sekkei Harada Roshi's "Unfathomable Depths: Drawing Wisdom for Today from a Classical Zen Poem." No previous Zen practice is necessary in order to benefit from this workshop.

The workshop will take place at the American Buddhist Study Center, 331 Riverside Dr, New York, NY 10025. Call them at (212) 864-7424 to register.
